What does the Warehouse DIM Calculator do?
1. It selects the right box.
Suppose there are 10 different box sizes in the warehouse:
Small → Medium → Large → XL...
As soon as an order arrives, the system or product profile can specify:
Use a Medium box for this product.
If a Large box was initially considered but a Medium box is safe to use, the DIM weight can be reduced.
Large box → Smaller box → Lower DIM → Potentially lower shipping cost
2. Assisting packing employees in selecting the right box
Employees at the fulfillment center should not have to perform manual calculations for every order.
Product data can be pre-loaded into the system:
Product A → Best Box = 14 × 12 × 8
The employee simply selects that specific box.
This results in:
Fewer incorrect box selections
Reduced packing time
Less unnecessary empty space
Potential to lower DIM weight
